amazon nonsense! once more

From the NYTimes:

SAN FRANCISCO — Last week, Jeffrey P. Bezos, chief executive of Amazon, offered an apparently heartfelt and anguished mea culpa to customers whose digital editions of George Orwell’s “1984” were remotely deleted from their Kindle reading devices.

Though copies of the books were sold by a bookseller that did not have legal rights to the novel, Mr. Bezos wrote on a company forum that Amazon’s “ ‘solution’ to the problem was stupid, thoughtless and painfully out of line with our principles.”

Having a bit of a discussion here about this. Cami says: "Much of the article is about how people are disturbed by the, um, "Big Brother" like control Amazon keeps over its customers through Kindle's DRM. But they never actually use the term "big brother" nor do they seem to get that the book involved was ... 1984!" Any irony here?

Glad I don't own one of these things... hummmmm ... but then my iPodTouch reminds me of updates and is otherwise SOOOO helpful. Aren't electronic tethers wonderful!?!?
