Stopped at a street light in the middle of no where and noticed a Calvatia gigantea or Giant puffball. Unfortunately it was some past it's eat by date. Big sigh! Once I convinced folks that puffballs were edible, many friends have arrived at my front door puffball in hand. One time there was a puffball juggler at the door (three at once). The only problem with these guys is they do earn their name GIANT!! and spoil fast (and don't dry). A week of 'shroom this and that is interesting but...

In the spring morels, but that is another post! Hungry! Time to make dinner.

Yeah, you really need a couple of hobbits around to deal with a giant puffball.

Definitely hobbit like in my love of mushrooms but sometimes... Once I had two different people deliver them to me on the same weekend. One about three times the size of my head, it completely filled a paper box.. Gave one away at school but made a giant pot of cream o' 'shroom soup and then invited the world for dinner.
