world bird sanctuary

Two separate events, one a meet and greet with non-native species (so we could actually hold them).

First saw an Augur Buzzard (Buteo rufofuscus) named Keeoo. African relative of the Red Tail hawk.

Then someone else's photo op with Xena the Eurasian Eagle Owl (Bubo bubo). She is one big bird.

Then in the afternoon in the large function room more birds, some flew from one keeper to another which was fun. Being so close to them actually flying was pretty amazing. I missed photos of the bald eagle as I was juggling dead batteries in my camera.

First up was the Harris Hawk (Parabuteo unicinctus) named Tequila.

Then Xena and a small relative Twig, an Eastern Screech Owl (Otus asio). Twig paid careful attention to Xena at all times. Xena on the other hand paid attention to the crowd.

Goblin was up next, he is a Barn owl ( Tyto Alba ).

Then Sassy, an American Kestrel ( Falco sparverius).

Lastly the joker in the bunch. Lenore, an African White Naped Raven (Corvus albicollis). Lenore likes to collect things and flew around collecting objects from volunteers in the audience. She then sat on top of the collection box and took bills from people and stuffed them into the box. Fun was had by all.
